Claudia O. Fuentes was elected Marion County Treasurer in February 2012.
Fuentes began her career in public service as a financial analyst in the Development Finance Division of the Indiana Department of Commerce. Next, she served as the tax incentives manager for the Indiana Economic Development Corporation where she helped structure incentive packages to spur job growth in the state.
In February 2007, she narrowed her focus to Marion County, serving as its deputy auditor. In this position, she helped fully integrate a new digital property tax system, improved and increased operating efficiencies, and identified opportunities for tax savings. As part of a collaborative effort to eliminate homestead fraud, she worked closely with the legislature to create new rules for applying for the homestead deduction.
With a concentration in finance, Fuentes earned her MBA from Butler University in 2007, and received her bachelor’s degree in business administration from Indiana University.
Treasurer Fuentes, a lifelong resident of Indiana, currently resides on the Westside of Indianapolis with her husband and two younger sons. Her older son is active duty military, currently serving with the U.S. Navy.
